A local man was honored with the Lone Star Award today for efforts that saved the life of an elderly woman.
Rep. John Ratcliffe presented the Lone Star Award to a local Ark-Tex Council of Governments worker for his efforts to save a woman's life while on the job. Mr. Earnest Briggs is a driver in the transportation program TRAX. He was doing his normal route when an elderly woman exhibited strange behavior, not answering the door and repeatedly stating that she wanted to cancel her trip. Since this was abnormal behavior for the woman, Briggs decided to contact the woman's family to make sure she was checked on. When a family member checked on her she found that the elderly woman was in critical condition from which she could had died if she hadn't received help.
