    East Texas voters will have a new District 1 representative after Tuesday's runoff election for the Texas State Senate.

    East Texas voters will have a new District 1 representative after Tuesday's runoff election for the Texas State Senate. Bryan Hughes secured the Texas State Senate District 1 race. With no Democratic challenger, Hughes will fill a vacancy created by Kevin Eltife's departure. Eltife has been the District 1 representative since 2004. Hughes and David Simpson faced each other in Tuesday's runoff after finishing first and second respectively in the March primary.
