A celebration for the 30th anniversary of the popular “Don’t mess with Texas” anti-litter campaign is coming up this weekend.
This spring marks the 30th anniversary of the popular “Don’t mess with Texas” anti-litter campaign. The Texas Travel Information Center in Texarkana is celebrating the occasion with a variety of events and activities on Saturday, June 11th from 10 am–3 pm. The mayor of Texarkana, Bob Bruggeman will kick off the celebration by reading an official proclamation around 11 am. Guests at the center will be able to play a Spin-the-Wheel game to win prizes, have pictures made with like-size photo props of Matthew McConaughey and George Strait and vendor tables will be set up with many give-away items. There will be guest appearances by TxDOT puppets Tex and Dot, crash test dummies Vince and Larry, and Smokey Bear. There will be games and activities for the kids, including a Tex and Dot puppet show, face painting and a Trash-to-Treasure Litter Art Contest sponsored by Keep Texarkana Beautiful. Top two winners of the contest will receive prizes for $50 and $25. The Don’t mess with Texas campaign has captured Texans’ sense of pride in their wonderful state while also helping to keep tons of litter off Texas roads. The public is invited to attend the celebration. For more information, contact: Valerie Eaves at the Texas TIC at 903-794-2114.
