Mayor's Non-Race, School Bus crash, and Veterans Dinner

The Mayor's race on both sides of Texarkana is not so hot and heavy this year... with two obvious  choices. Mayor Bob Bruggeman is unchallenged in his bid for re-election this fall.He has served as mayor on the Texas side since 2012.  And only one person wants to be mayor on the Arkansas side. Allen Brown was the only person to qualify by the Friday deadline.  Brown will take the place of the current Mayor Ruth Penney Bell, who decided not to run for re-election.  Arkansas State Police are investigating a school bus accident involving a semi near Fulton yesterday afternoon.
The reported crash was at the intersection of Highway 67 West and Hempstead 189 South. The truck driver told deputies he was trying to avoid hitting a car that stopped in the highway near the intersection when he lost control.Paramedics checked out all the children who were on the bus at the time of the crash and thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.
Veterans will be honored at a dinner and a celebration in downtown Linden on September 8th.
Several groups will be at the celebration - The Cass County Health Department says the Mobile VA unit will also be on hand to help with services for combat veterans. There will also be a car show. The celebration starts at 11am. For more info, contact Michelle Valentin at 903-756-5391 or Michelle. Valentin@ag.tamu.edu
