Early Sunday morning police were dispatched to Maud to find a man who was deceased following a drunk wrestling match.
Early Sunday morning police were dispatched to the 7500 block of Farm to Market 2149 in Maud, Texas for a subject that was not breathing. They arrived to find William Pate deceased in the driveway. According to reports, Robert Autrey, Lee Sharp and Pate had been visiting and consuming alcohol. After sometime, Pate and Sharp began playfully wrestling which was described to police as "drunk wrestling." Mr. Autrey said he went in his house for a moment and when he stepped back outside he thought he saw Pate falling to the ground and Mr. Sharp with a board in his hands that he tossed into the yard. Assuming that Pate had passed out, Autrey and Sharp moved him into the garage to “sleep it off.” Autrey then took Mr. Sharp home and returned home. This is when he found that Pate was not breathing and called 911. Lieutenant White received a warrant and arrested Mr. Sharp, who has been booked in to the Bi-State Jail for Aggravated Assault with a bond at $100,000.00. This is an ongoing investigation and the charges against Mr. Sharp could be upgraded pending the outcome of the final autopsy report.
