Former employee sues Domtar, alleges wrongful termination for medical marijuana use

A former Domtar employee is suing the Ashdown paper mill.

The lawsuit was filed in Little River County circuit court and alleges that the paper mill fired the employee for legally using marijuana on his personal time.

Bryan Pinson claims that, after more than a decade of service at the mill, he was terminated after using medical marijuana prescribed by his physician.

Prinsen alleges that he started the prescription two years ago and had a perfect safety record before Domtar tried to make him choose between quitting the prescription or going to rehab.

Prinsen says he was regularly screened for drugs and had come up positive, but no action was taken because of his status as a prescription user.

He says that Domtar reclassified positions at the mill as “safety-sensitive” in order to terminate medical marijuana users.
