The McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a house fire that left a woman dead outside Idabel.
According to McCurtain County Sheriff Kevin Clardy, the case began on February 20 with a civil dispute between a property owner and a pair of tenants who the owner claimed hadn’t paid rent in over two years. Deputies advised both parties at the time of proper eviction procedures.
According to Sheriff Clardy, the owner returned to the property on March 2 with a friend and the two set the structure on fire. The two residents were both outside the property at one point, but the female ran back inside to save pets.
By the time law enforcement and fire fighters arrived, the residence was engulfed. The female’s remains were found inside after the fire was contained.
The property owner and the friend were both arrested and face multiple felony charges.
