State-of-the-Art Outdoor Fitness Court® Coming to Spring Lake Park

The City of Texarkana, Texas, National Fitness Campaign (NFC), Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, and AEP Foundation will host a ribbon cutting at Spring Lake Park in celebration of the new Outdoor Fitness Court on Tuesday, March 7th, at 2:00 p.m.

This Fitness Court was developed to expand free access to high quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities around the state. The Fitness Court® is the world’s best outdoor gym that allows users to obtain a complete workout using bodyweight with seven various exercise stations.

Created with people aged 14 and over and with all abilities in mind, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users are encouraged to download the free Fitness Court App which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.

“On average, one in two adults don’t have enough aerobic physical activity in their day-to-day lives, which can lead to chronic, yet preventable, conditions,” said Sheena Payne, director of community affairs at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. “Helping fund these Fitness Courts is just one more way we can work toward all Texans having access to optimal health outcomes right in their own community.”

“The American Electric Power Foundation is pleased to support the City of Texarkana with a grant to support the addition of a Fitness Court at Spring Lake Park,” said External Affairs Manager Jennifer Harland. “The Foundation strives to improve the quality of life for people in the communities where AEP has the privilege of serving. Access to high quality workouts and equitable access to exercise for our communities is critical for the health and well-being for all”.

Texarkana is one of 20 outdoor Fitness Courts in a series of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Fitness Courts that will be constructed in easily accessible public spaces this year.

“This Fitness Court is an excellent addition to Spring Lake Park which will provide an additional resource for our residents,” said City Manager David Orr. “We are grateful to see our parks continue to grow and want to thank our partners and staff for all the hard work they’ve done to make this a reality for our community.”

“National Fitness Campaign is proud to welcome the City of Texarkana to the campaign as a leader in Texas, championing health and wellness for their residents,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of NFC. “We are proud to continue our mission of getting people moving outdoors and helping communities combat the fiscal and humanitarian costs of sedentary lifestyles. ”
