Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has declared a state of emergency ahead of severe winter weather expected this weekend.
The order releases $250,000 from the Governor’s Disaster Response and Recovery Fund to support storm response and recovery efforts, with funds managed by the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management.
The declaration also provides temporary regulatory relief for commercial vehicles delivering essential supplies, including fuel, food, electricity, and medical equipment. Utility and emergency response vehicles will be allowed to bypass weigh stations, and certain federal transportation rules are suspended through February 23rd.
Officials say the move will help ensure fuel and heating supplies remain available during extreme cold and high demand.
