The Texarkana Arkansas Police department is warning about a new text message scam is circulating that claims you owe money for an unpaid traffic toll.
The message includes an image that looks like an official court summons, complete with a court seal, case number, and a QR code. It warns that if you don’t pay immediately, you could face serious consequences, including arrest.
But the message is fake. Cybercriminals are using the QR code to send victims to a fraudulent payment website designed to steal financial information.
Officials say real legal notices are usually sent by mail or delivered in person—not by text message.
If you’re concerned about a toll or traffic ticket, contact your local court or toll agency directly using their official website or phone number. Never scan a QR code from an unknown source.
