A 46-year-old man was killed Sunday evening during an officer-involved shooting east of Texarkana, according to Arkansas State Police.
Authorities say Tommy Ray Sevier was shot after exchanging gunfire with a Texarkana Arkansas Police Department officer during a traffic stop on State Highway 296 around 6:15 p.m.
An Arkansas State Trooper initially stopped Sevier after confirming he had an active felony warrant. Officers familiar with Sevier responded to assist.
Police say Sevier refused repeated commands to exit his vehicle, and during the encounter, both he and an officer fired shots. Sevier was struck during the exchange.
Officers provided medical aid and called for EMS. Sevier was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
No officers were injured. The investigation is ongoing, and the case will be reviewed by the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
