The historic Perot Theatre in downtown Texarkana will temporarily close this summer for a major $3 million renovation aimed at modernizing its audio and visual systems.

The project includes a new digital sound system, upgraded lighting, improved intercom technology, additional wheelchair seating, and a relocated sound booth to better meet today's performance standards.

The work is expected to begin next month, with the theatre planning to reopen around Thanksgiving. Funding for the project comes from voter-approved bonds and the Texas Commission on the Arts. Theatre officials say the upgrades will help attract more performances while preserving the building's historic character for years to come.
