Proposed Federal Bill Could Bring Lithium Industry Growth to Texarkana

Northeast Texas could play a major role in supplying lithium for the U.S. Army under a proposed federal bill introduced by East Texas Congressman Nathaniel Moran and Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn.

Northeast Texas could play a major role in supplying lithium for the U.S. Army under a proposed federal bill introduced by East Texas Congressman Nathaniel Moran and Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn.

The legislation would allow private companies to mine lithium beneath military depots, including the Red River Army Depot in Bowie County. Supporters say the goal is to reduce America’s dependence on foreign countries like China for critical minerals used in military equipment and electric vehicle batteries.

Officials say the measure could bring new jobs, investment and tax revenue to the Texarkana area while helping establish the region as a hub for lithium battery production.
