Family members of two murder victims in De Kalb are questioning whether Bowie County District Attorney Jerry Rochelle is acting for political reasons.
Family members of two murder victims in De Kalb are questioning whether Bowie County District Attorney Jerry Rochelle is acting for political reasons. In letters filed in court, they say Rochelle told them on August 25 he would be taking over the case against Clyde Stephens, who’s charged with capital murder in the June deaths of Charles Beckham Jr. and Donna Culpepper.
The families claim Rochelle replaced First Assistant DA Kelley Crisp, raising concerns since both are running for district attorney in next year’s Republican primary. Rochelle denies the move was political and says his goal is to fully support the families. Crisp says she remains committed to serving Bowie County.
