The Tough Kookie Foundation is preparing for its annual Breast Cancer Race and Walk, set for October 17th at 8 a.m. at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

Founded seven years ago by 12-year breast cancer survivor Katina Livingston, the organization helps local families affected by breast and childhood cancers.

Livingston says the foundation provides financial assistance for mammograms and other breast imaging services. This year, the group is partnering with the Texarkana Arkansas NAACP to provide 25 free mammograms to eligible women.

About 1,500 people have registered for this year's event. Brenda Stewart has also been named Breast Cancer Survivor of the Year.
