Between January 1st and July 12th, 52 people were killed on roadways in TxDOT's Atlanta District. Officials say 19 of those deaths happened during a single 30-day period.
The district includes Bowie, Camp, Cass, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Panola, Titus, and Upshur counties.
TxDOT says speeding, failing to stay in a lane, and not wearing seat belts are the leading causes of the fatal crashes. Drivers are being reminded to buckle up, put away distractions, obey traffic laws, slow down in bad weather, and never drive impaired.
