Texarkana College is celebrating a major milestone with the graduation of its first class from the Aviation Maintenance Technician program.
All graduates earned FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification, along with a specialized aerospace coating certification, preparing them for in-demand aviation careers. The students completed the intensive one-year program with hands-on training at Texarkana Regional Airport.
College officials say graduates have already received job offers from companies like Boeing, SkyWest Airlines, and Aerotek. President Dr. Jason Smith says the program helps meet a nationwide shortage of aircraft mechanics.
Starting salaries in the field often exceed 80-thousand dollars a year, and Texarkana College plans to expand the program with new classes throughout the year.
